Background[]

In 2023, producer Dan Nigro confirmed that he and Roan had started working on her second album via his Instagram story. Unfortunately, Roan's popularity had not yet grown to the audience she currently has and the story went widely unnoticed.

On March 21, 2024, in an interview with Rolling Stone, Roan would confirm that she had two songs half-completed for her upcoming new project (one would later confirmed to be "Good Luck, Babe!")

In an interview with Elle Magazine on July 17, 2024, Roan confirmed that she has no release date plans for releasing new music due to her time being taken to work on the sophomore album. However, despite having no plan yet, Roan has teased different genres and sounds for her sophomore album such as dance-pop, a "roots country song", and rock & roll in the same interview.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Roan would confirm that the album has 5 or 6 songs so far (with the exception of Good Luck, Babe!) stating “We have a country song, a dancy song. We have one that’s really Eighties, and we have one that’s acoustic, and we have one that’s really organic, live-band, Seventies vibes,” and describing it as “super weird.” The “country song” she referred to was likely “The Giver”. In the same interview with Rolling Stone, Roan would confirm that after the conclusion of the Midwest Princess Tour, she will begin working full time on the new album beginning in November.

On October 29, 2024, Roan would reference her debut and tease a new project by cryptically posting “[First] album kinda popped off imo but is is time to welcome a hot new bombshell into the villa ¨̮☆” via Instagram.

In March 2025 on a TikTok live stream, Roan would confirm that the album was still in development by saying “we’re so beyond… I could not even tell you.”

On August 4, 2025, Chappell revealed to Vogue Magazine that her second album will take 5 years to make, quoting, "The second project doesn’t exist yet. [...] There is no album. There is no collection of songs. [...] It took me five years to write the first one, and it’s probably going to take at least five to write the next. I’m not that type of writer that can pump it out."
