"Pink Pony Club" is a song by American singer-songwriter Chappell Roan. It was released on April 3, 2020 and later became the first single off of Roan's debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. The track was initially released through Atlantic Records and was later re-released through Amusement Records and Island Records.
Background[]
Roan began working with songwriter and producer Daniel Nigro in early 2020.[1] "Pink Pony Club" was the pair's first release, which she has described as a "hard left turn" from School Nights.[2] Roan cited a visit to The Abbey, a gay bar in West Hollywood, as the inspiration for the song.[3][4] She said that the song expressed her desire to become a go-go dancer in Los Angeles, stating, "truthfully, I'm not confident enough to do that, so I wrote a song about it."[5]
Critical Reception[]
USA Today ranked "Pink Pony Club" third on a list of the "10 best songs of 2020"; an accompanying description characterized it as dance-pop that "earnestly [celebrates] queer culture, acceptance and chasing your dreams."[6] A year after its release, Vulture described the track as "the Song of Summer 2021," calling it a "synthy infectious bangarang."[7] By August 2022, the song had been streamed more than 10 million times on Spotify.[5]
Composition[]
Musically, "Pink Pony Club" is a Dance-Pop track with Alt-Pop influences. It's composed in the key of F# Major and has a tempo of 107 beats per minute.

A photoshoot by Lissy Elle was conducted for the song.

Lyrics[]
[Verse 1]
I know you wanted me to stay
But I can't ignore the crazy visions of me in L.A.
And I heard that there's a special place
Where boys and girls can all be queens every single day
[Refrain]
I'm having wicked dreams of leaving Tennessee
Hear Santa Monica, I swear it's calling me
Won't make my mama proud, it's gonna cause a scene
She sees her baby girl, I know she's gonna scream
[Pre-Chorus]
"God, what have you done?
You're a pink pony girl, and you dance at the club," oh mama
I'm just having fun
On the stage in my heels, it's where I belong, down at the
[Chorus]
Pink Pony Club, I'm gonna keep on dancing at the
Pink Pony Club, I'm gonna keep on dancing down in
West Hollywood, I'm gonna keep on dancing at the
Pink Pony Club, Pink Pony Club
[Verse 2]
I'm up and jaws are on the floor
Lovers in the bathroom and a line outside the door
Black lights and a mirrored disco ball
Every night's another reason why I left it all
[Refrain]
I thank my wicked dreams, a year from Tennessee
Oh, Santa Monica, you've been too good to me
Won't make my mama proud, it's gonna cause a scene
She sees her baby girl, I know she's gonna scream
[Pre-Chorus]
"God, what have you done?
You're a pink pony girl, and you dance at the club," oh mama
I'm just having fun
On the stage in my heels, it's where I belong, down at the
[Chorus]
Pink Pony Club, I'm gonna keep on dancing at the
Pink Pony Club, I'm gonna keep on dancing down in
West Hollywood, I'm gonna keep on dancing at the
Pink Pony Club, Pink Pony Club
[Guitar Solo]
[Bridge]
Don't think I've left you all behind
Still love you and Tennessee, you're always on my mind
And mama, every Saturday
I can hear your Southern drawl a thousand miles away, saying
[Pre-Chorus]
"God, what have you done?
You're a pink pony girl, and you dance at the club," oh mama
I'm just having fun
On the stage in my heels, it's where I belong, down at the
[Chorus]
Pink Pony Club, I'm gonna keep on dancing at the
Pink Pony Club, I'm gonna keep on dancing down in
West Hollywood, I'm gonna keep on dancing at the
Pink Pony Club, Pink Pony Club
[Guitar Solo]
[Outro]
I'm gonna keep on dancing
I'm gonna keep on dancing
