"The Giver" is a song by Chappell Roan. It serves as the second single to Roan’s sophomore album. The song released on March 13, 2025.
Background[]
The song was first teased when Roan posted a series of cryptic Polaroids to her Instagram, each spelling out the phrase "She Gets The Job Done".
The song was debuted on November 2, 2024 during Roan's performance on Saturday Night Live. Later on November 7, Roan would confirm the song’s release would be ’soon’ although not specifying an exact date.[1]
On February 16, 2025, Chappell Roan Fandemonium, the official fan account run by Roan and her team, posted the phone number (620) HOT-TOGO (+1 (620) 468-8646) on their Instagram story.[2] The number led to a voicemail which would proceed to state, "To book an appointment with the dentist, please press one. If you're trying to reach our attorney, press two. If you're having plumbing issues, press three. For any other construction services, press four. If you have a pressing question but don't have the answer, you can talk to our private investigator by pressing five. Thank you, have a good day." Pressing any of the mentioned numbers would play a different snippet of the song.[3]
The next day, a fan spotted a billboard themed with photos of Roan as a lawyer in Nashville, Tennessee further promoting the song.[4] Further billboards would be spotted in New York, New York[5] and Los Angeles, California[6], featuring similar promotional artwork.
On February 18, 2025, Roan would reveal one of five alternate covers for the physical release titled “The Lawyer.”
On February 19, 2025, a flyer in Springfield, Missouri, would be spotted, this time featuring a photo of Roan as a dentist. Many more identical posters popped up around the United States.[7]
On February 22, 2025, Roan's team would reach out to multiple gay bars across Chicago, Illinois, sparking the arrival of posters with text alluding to Roan taking on a plumber persona.[8][9] Two days later, on February 24, billboards and posters of Roan would be spotted in Chicago, Illinois featuring photos of her dressed as a plumber.[10][11]
On February 25, 2025, Roan would reveal the second of five alternate covers for the physical release titled "The Plumber."[12]
On February 26, 2025, Roan released the first high-quality snippet of the song through her TikTok account.[13]
On February 27, 2025, fans discovered an advertisement featuring Roan as a construction worker in New York City, New York. [14] The same day, Roan also released a video through her Instagram story of herself sucking on a lollipop with a picture of her as a private investigator.[15]
On March 2, 2025, Roan posted a video of herself dancing to the song on TikTok before quickly deleting it. [16]
On March 3, 2025, Roan would reveal the third of five alternate covers for the physical release titled "The Private Investigator". [17]
On March 4, 2025, Roan announced the release date, March 13, 2025, through an Instagram post. Along with this announcement, she revealed the fourth of five alternate covers for the physical release titled "The Construction Worker.”[18]
Following billboards being put up featuring Roan as a dentist[19], she would reveal the fifth and final alternate cover for the physical release titled “The Dentist.”[20]
