Background[]

Creating Lavish was a amazing experience that really taught me the wonder of song writing. With School Nights I think it really was the beginning but with this album I have felt like i've been able to focus on my skills.

2017[]

In 2017, Roan saw out to make a continuation of her recently released EP, School Nights. In November 2017, Roan wrote a multitude of songs for the album, including two songs named "Bitter". Roan had written both with intention of only one being on the album, and chose the first version over the second one.

Recording started in late December of that year with producer Andrew Wells, recording the song "Lavish". When asked in a interview why she chose Lavish to be the title for the album, Roan stated it was because when recording the song it set the direction the album was heading in and encapsulated the atmosphere.

2018[]

On January 23, 2018, Roan announced "Bitter" as the lead single for her debut album. The song was released on February 2, 2018, with an acoustic version of "Die Young" being released as it's B-side.

From June to July of 2018 Roan shared her plans for and teased the project many times. In an interview Roan had shared her plans to include the entirety of School Nights as disc 1 on the track list, though this idea was later scrapped. Roan has also performed many outtakes and album songs at a "prodigy camp", including "Envisioned".

On September 11, 2018, Roan announced "Lavish" as the second single from the album. The announcement came with a pre-save link which revealed the album title. "Lavish" was released on September 26, 2018 alongside a music video for it.

On November 15, 2018, Roan posted a snippet of the song "Hold Me Down", teasing it as the next single for the album. On November 20, 2018, Roan announced Lavish and "Hold Me Down" as the third and final single for the album. Preorder's for a black CD of the album were made available during that same day. Lavish was released on December 16, 2018.

A tour, named The Leather Tour, was conducted as promotion for the album. The tour had two legs, one in America and one in Europe. The tour started on February 28, 2019, and ended on July 2, 2019, and had 40 shows overall.

Critical Reception[]

The album, similar to School Nights, received mixed reviews from critiques. Some praised Roan's lyricism and conception of the over arching story of the album, while other critiques gave criticism on Roan's vocals[2] and the track listing order.
